LION Board of Directors
Lt. Gen. Huly retired from the Marine Corps in 2006 after almost 37 years of service. As Lt. General, he served as the principal operations officer for the Marine Corps with duties including staff coordination of operational matters, combat readiness and security. He coordinated the development and execution of service plans and policies related to structure, acquisition of systems and equipment, and deployment of Marine Corps forces. As Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Gen. Huly trained and supervised operating managers in all aspects of recruiting, and maintained the most successful recruiting program of all military services at the time. He developed and controlled budgets for operations of over $1.25 billion in facilities and assets, with significant participation and planning with economic, government and business negotiations, and oversaw commercial retail operations with over $70 million in sales and services annually. Previous assignments included responsibilities for worldwide operations staffing, policy development on force protection and security, and testifying before Congress on force readiness. He also has overseen a charitable program that collected and distributed $50 million annually in toys to needy children. Gen. Huly holds a MA from Central Michigan University, and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
Since leaving the Marine Corps, Jan has consulted with numerous firms throughout the United States on defense, security and leadership related issues. He is also a member of the Defense Science Board for the Department of Defense, and the Board of Directors of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
Jan serves on the Lion Board of Directors and he is designated as the LVI advisor on all matters.
