LION Partnership with Teijin to Recycle Nomex Uniform Garments
December 20, 2024 | CORPORATE MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
At LION, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Teijin to recycle mass quantities of Nomex uniform garments. This collaboration is not just a step toward sustainability – it’s a leap forward in how we approach textile recycling and waste reduction in our industry.
A Milestone in Recycling: Over 4,000 Pounds of Aramid Garments Recycled
We are proud to report that, to date, we have successfully recycled over 4,000 pounds of aramid garments – that’s over two tons of material that has been diverted from landfills. Our latest shipment to Teijin weighed in at 682 pounds, making it yet another significant milestone in this ongoing initiative.
The Challenge of Recycling Nomex
Nomex, a high-performance material known for its exceptional durability and flame-resistant properties, has long been a staple in protective garments for industries like firefighting, electrical work, and more. While these garments are critical to safety, Nomex poses unique challenges when it comes to disposal. Unlike conventional textiles, Nomex does not degrade easily and cannot be recycled through traditional methods. This makes it all the more important to find a solution that ensures these garments are repurposed responsibly rather than ending up in landfills.
A Partnership Built on Innovation and Responsibility
Our collaboration with Teijin is essential in addressing the environmental impact of Nomex uniforms. By working together, we are extending the life cycle of these garments, reducing textile waste, and ensuring that over 4,000 pounds of material have been properly processed.
Teijin’s expertise in recycling high-performance textiles, combined with our commitment to responsible waste management, creates a powerful solution that contributes to a more sustainable future for the entire industry.
A Team Effort: Thanks to Our Hazel Green Team
A special thank you goes out to our dedicated Hazel Green team for their hard work in consolidating the mass exodus of uniform units. Their efforts in coordinating with Teijin and ensuring smooth shipments have been instrumental in making this project a success. Without their dedication, this initiative wouldn’t be where it is today.
Looking Ahead: A Long-Term Commitment to Sustainability
This partnership is just the beginning. We look forward to continuing our work with Teijin and other like-minded organizations to further our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Together, we’re helping to transform the lifecycle of Nomex garments, reduce environmental impact, and make a meaningful difference in the world of textile recycling.
