Moisture can collect between the reflective trim and the outer shell of your turnout. It is uncomfortable and unsafe. NFPA 1971 added a Stored Energy Test to the 2013 Edition of the standard to address the phenomena of steam-related, stored energy burns.
LION's patented Ventilated Trim provides a conduit for the release of vapor to a traditionally impermeable component of your turnout gear, the trim. Perforations enable vapor release as moisture is heated and trim is compressed. Our Ventilated Trim is available in 3M™ Scotchlite™ and Oralite® reflective material.
As vapor escapes your turnout gear, moisture can collect between the layers of your turnout. In fire ground conditions this moisture can turn to heated vapor.
When the gear is compressed and heated, the trapped moisture can transfer heat toward the body.
LION Ventilated Trim is perforated to provide a conduit for the release of vapor and guard against the potential hazards of trapped moisture.
These perforations eliminate the need for additional thermal enhancements to meet the Stored Energy Test, since they allow for the release of heat in the system when compressed.
