A person cannot overestimate the importance of personal protection equipment to a firefighter. Literally, a matter of life or death; the only shield between rescue and catastrophe. Overseeing the PPE program for one of the nation’s largest Fire Department can be a daunting challenge. We are responsible for the tracking of more than 30,000 pieces of gear as it cycles through, third party inspection, advanced cleaning, and repair. For more than 15 years we have partnered with LION Total Care (LTC), a company that plays a crucial role in the maintenance of our PPE. Trust is everything. Together we developed the very robust database that LTC now uses to track all the serial numbers to all our firefighters. We are always confident when state auditors take a close look at our operations as we have always exceeded expectations during these meticulous audits. Additionally, we have successfully weathered hurricanes, tropical storm Harvey, major contaminations, and all the other challenges a large Fire Department will face. Beyond the cleaning aspects LTC has proven to be flexible over the years as we have changed methodologies many times; faced challenging economic times (LTC helped us find cost savings); and even assisted us with the integration of an in-station extractor program. To this day after all these years together we still meet once a month to discuss… well just about everything. That’s why more than just a vendor LTC will continue to be our partner.
